How to donate?

The David Campbell Memorial Association is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of Fire Chief David Campbell and 35 other Portland firefighters who have given their lives in the line of duty.

Efforts are currently underway to raise funds to cover design and construction costs associated with building the memorial.  A ceremony to dedicate the memorial is tentatively scheduled for June 26, 2011, which is the 100th anniversary of Chief David Campbell’s death.

In order to make this vision a reality, the David Campbell Memorial Association is soliciting support from donors who wish to honor Portland firefighters past, present and future.

Donations in any amount can be made payable to the David Campbell Memorial Association by cash, check or money-order and sent to:

Memorial Vision

The Union Oil Fire

On June 26, 1911, an alarm came in from E. Salmon and Water Street shortly after 7:45 a.m. An oil pump at the Union Oil distributing plant had thrown a spark, igniting gas accumulated in its motor pit.
